How-To Stop Emails from My Own Account

This is a case where you receive an email from someone insisting that you sent them an infected message. On just about every occasion, the message actually does look like it was sent from you and more than likely included an attachment which is infected. These are fake emails sent from someone with the intent to do various harm and somehow obtained your Gmail address to do so.

The trick to it is that they sometimes get sent back to you as undeliverable. So you end up with the error email about it. For the most part, you can report other Gmail users if you know who is doing this to you. But unfortunately, you can’t always find out who is doing what online. The other help to this is with the use of Block Sender. This extension for Gmail users using Google Chrome can block the undeliverable message from getting into your inbox when the person responsible ends up sending to an actual invalid address.

To block the error message, follow these steps:

Step 1) Download and install Block Sender for Gmail using Google Chrome.

Step 2) Log into your Gmail account and open the undeliverable email. Gmail will load once Block Sender is installed.

Step 3) Optional: You can select different options from the Options page to handle the email as you see fit by clicking the down arrow button on the Block button.

Step 4) Click the Block button located next to the Delete button on the message toolbar. Close the message.

At this point, you can either attempt to find out who is using your address to send out fake emails and report them or you can leave it as is. In any case, the undeliverable message won’t be showing up in your inbox again. Just remember there are safety nets built into Block Sender just in case the wrong sender gets blocked. So the messages are not always deleted immediately.

Gmail does an excellent job of blocking spam, but sometimes you just want to go the extra mile and prevent some mail from ever reaching your account.
